According to the lawsuit, Facebook violated an Illinois state law by incorrectly using photo-scanning and face recognition technologies on users’ uploaded photographs and gathered biometric information without their explicit consent. The case dates back to 2015, where three Illinois residents, Nimesh Patel, Adam Pezen, and Carlo Licata had sued Facebook for violating a state privacy law on protecting biometric privacy. The new experiment ‘Keen’ has been developed as part of Area 120, Google`s workshop for experimental projects, in close collaboration with a team at Google called People and AI Research (PAIR), which is dedicated to human-centered machine learning systems. Keen, which is a web and Android app, lets the users create their own version of Pinterest’s board. “On Keen, you say what you want to spend more time on, and then curate content from the web and people you trust to help make that happen,” wrote CJ Adams, Co-founder of Keen in a blog post....

According to Pickren, Apple requires nearly every app to be granted explicit permission to access the camera and microphone, but the same was not true for Apple’s own apps, such as Safari. He exploited this exception to uncover the vulnerabilities and managed to “hammer the browser with obscure corner cases” until he got access to the camera. “The camera security model in iOS and macOS is pretty intense.
