Dubbed ‘YoWhatsApp’, this modded version of the popular instant messaging app was discovered by research analysts at Kaspersky. The researchers found that the latest version of YoWhatsApp, v2.22.11.75 deployed an Android trojan that they dubbed as Trojan.AndroidOS.Triada.eq. This module decrypted and launched the Trojan.AndroidOS.Triada.ef main payload. Then, the modified app scrapes users’ WhatsApp access keys and sends them to a remote server of its developers. According to Kaspersky, the stolen keys are used by cybercriminals typically in open-source utilities that allow the use of a WhatsApp account without the app....

The vulnerability in AFNetworking code library which lets hackers perform the MiTM attacks was uncovered by SourceDNA. Cult of Mac reports that the older AFNetworking code library version had the vulnerability and has been fixed in version 2.5.2 but several App developers have not updated their Apps, leaving them open to attack. SourceDNA scanned around 1.4 million apps available on the Apple App Store and found out that around 1,500 Apps were not updated to the latest version of the AFNetworking code library....

The yesteryears king of mobile phones, Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc. on Wednesday in Germany and the U.S. for patent infringement over intellectual property used in the iPhone and other Apple products. The suit was filed in Regional Courts in Dusseldorf, Mannheim and Munich in Germany and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. For those unaware, in July this year, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had issued a “final warning” to TikTok and had asked it to “put in place a comprehensive mechanism to control obscenity, vulgarity and immorality through its social media application.” However, TikTok failed to obey the guidelines which forced the PTA to ban the video streaming app in the country. According to PTA, the ban comes in view of “complaints from different segments of the society against immoral and indecent content on the video-sharing application....

The hackers told the BBC Russian Service that they had personal information of more than 120 million accounts, which they were attempting to sell. Many of the users whose details have been compromised are based in Ukraine and Russia but some were also from the UK, US, Brazil and elsewhere. “The hackers offered to sell access for 10 cents per account.
