Who would of thought that you could call your customers offensive names and still be in business with them. Having a monopoly certainly helps, Comcast knows this and for most people they are the only game in town. Christopher Elliott’s blog, a consumer advocate first broke the news of the Comcast Asshole incident. That story caught fire and trended online, as other Comcast customers reached out to Elliott with similar claims that their accounts were altered with offensive names. One customer’s bill had her named changed on her bill as “Whore” of course her name is not “Whore” and she had to speak to over 20 Comcast employees over the course of several weeks until this name issue was resolved. Another Comcast customer had his name changed to “Dummy” and also had to go through a series of customer service hurdles to eventually correct his name on the Comcast database. Even a third Comcast customer had his name changed to a less auspicious “Fakoe”, while not strictly a offensive word, was not his real name. The name changes seem to be tied to their account and not just on their paper billing statement and seem to be tied to calling to remove ancillary services like add-ons that involve two year contracts that include a bundle of extra channels that are over and above the standard Internet service. At the time of this writing Comcast stated they are resolving the issue, but according to the offended customers no formal apology has been made
