A certain user ‘Josh Gazelle’ has been identified as the leaker of the trailer. Marvel has cited that this leak caused significant damage to Marvel and its Avenger’s movie in terms of money and publicity.
The Ruling
The court has accepted Marvel Comics plea and ordered Google to to help Marvel search for the individual ‘Josh Gazelle’ who has been attributed to the leaking of the new Avengers: Age of Ultron movie trailer, according to a subpoena issued by the US District Court for the Northern District of California. “Your are commanded to produce at the time, date, and place set forth below the following documents, electronically stored information, or objects, and to permit inspection, copying, testing, or sampling of the material,” the subpoena said. The US Court however disallowed Marvel from entering Google premised. In its plea, Marvel also asked the permit to “entry onto the designated premises […] so that the requesting party may inspect, measure, survey, photograph, test, or sample the property or any designated object or operation on it.” In simple terms Google was told to provide any data that would help identify the user ‘Josh Gazelle’ who leaked the trailer. The court also ordered Google to turn over “the IP address from which the file named ‘ap-tlr-l_int_360p.mp4 and containing content known as Avengers: Age of Ultron was uploaded to the Google Drive Site.” Industry watchers and other media outlets have alleged that the leak was a inside job and leaker is someone who works for Marvel.
